Students are arguing to learn.The theory of dialogue is important to discussion.In dialogue theory , an argument is seen as a move made in a dialogue in which two parties attempt to reason together. Six types of dialogue are described – persuasion, inquiry, negotiation, informationseeking, deliberation, and eristic.If we want to use argumentation for learning, students need to balance an assertiveness in advancing their claims with a sensitivity to the social effects of their argument on their opponents.Argumentation involves elaboration, reasoning, and reflection. These activities have been shown to contribute to deeper conceptual learning.
